Course Content:
Our manual handling instructor course QQI Level 6 runs for 5 days over 2 weeks.
Day 1 –
We will deal with health and safety legislation, with a particular focus on manual handling. You will gain a detailed understanding of acts, regulations, PIAB and insurance and litigation. You will also gain an in-depth understanding of employers and employees legal responsibilities.
Day 2 –
Anatomy, injuries & flexibility will be covered in detail on day 2. You will also learn about the risk assessment process. You will carry out a range of practical risk assessments designed to reduce the need for manual handling and reduce the risk of manual handling related injuries. This module will enable you to conduct detailed manual handling risk assessments and will enable you to suggest control measures that will cut the risk of manual handling injuries.
Day 3 –
Deals with training skills. Learners will gain practical knowledge in the skills required to successfully deliver a manual handling training course and will partake in a brief practical delivery of a 5-minute presentation on a topic of their choice. Learners will also cover the basics in safe lifting techniques.
Day 4 –
Consists of a full practical day on lifting techniques. Learners will be shown correct lifting techniques for a range of different loads including awkward loads, fluid loads, lifting up and down stairs, team lifts, pushing and pulling. If there is any specific lift you would like us to demonstrate, we will do it as part of the training.
Day 5 –
A full manual handling training session will be delivered by our manual handling instructor, this is a public course and is used to demonstrate how exactly a course should be delivered. All participants will deliver a 10-minute presentation on 1 topic from the manual handling course. In addition to this, they will sit a one-hour exam.
Additional Learning: All participant need to complete a detailed manual handling risk assessment which is conducted as self-directed learning, this has to be returned within 2 weeks of the course.
Additional Training Opportunity: All participants are given the opportunity to deliver their own Manual Handling course or part of a course under direct supervision from a qualified manual handling instructor, this training takes place in our training centre and is available after you complete their Manual Handling Instructor Training Course.
Maximum Participants Per Course: 10
Course Assessment: Assessments comes in three parts – Skills Demonstration (60%), Theory Exam (20%) and Assignment (20%). Participants must pass all three assessments to qualify for certification.
Who Should Attend This Manual Handling Instructor Course QQI Level 6: Health & Safety Practitioners or trainers who intend to deliver Manual Handling Training. Those who wish to deliver and certify in-house Manual Handling Training Programmes.
Special Instructions For This Course: Due to the degree of practical activity involved, participants are required to have reasonable levels of fitness and flexibility, as this course is unsuitable for anyone with any condition, which is aggravated by practical lifting or anyone who suffers from any form of back, knee or hip injury.
Participants must wear comfortable clothing, with closed toe shoes, throughout the course.
Refresher Training & Certification Validity Period: Refresher training is required every 5 years.
