Quality Manager

Impulse Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Quality Manager for a large company based in Ashbourne Co Meath

This is a Full Time Permanent position and a great opportunity to join a large expanding and busy company

Reporting to the Technical Lead and responsible for the Technical and Quality Department The candidate will liase with Internal – Operations/Commercial, External – Customer Depot QA/Suppliers and other occasional external contacts whilst deputising for Technical Manager                            

The Technical & Quality Department consists of the following Personnel:
  • Technical Lead
  • Quality Manager
  • Quality Controllers

The department is responsible for ensuring that all produce supplied to Customers meets Specifications, Food Safety and Legal requirements within Commercial and Operational constraints.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure the delivery of product for sale is within specification using dispatch reports.
  • Ensure that equipment calibration is carried out as required (including scales, probes, etc.)
  • Manage relevant quality standards, e.g. HACCP to ensure food safety, statutory & Company standards are maintained
  • SOP & Record: HACCP, BRC, Organic, Bord Bia, GFE, Customer specifications
  • Produce production/working specifications as required and identify and record any product and or service quality problems.
  • Ensure suitable product traceability records are maintained throughout the supply chain and maintaining a product recall system – Consider Environment, Micro, MRL
  • Ensure the necessary product testing is completed on time (including Micro / Swabs)
  • Maintaining suitable records & trends and communicating non- conformances appropriately and conducting root cause analysis reports
  • Co-ordinate internal audits including regular hygiene audits, glass audits and housekeeping / GMP checks.
  • Monitor access to the site and security control, including fob control
  • Monitoring factory and staff hygiene standards on at least a daily basis and informing production/cleaning staff of any areas that require attention.
  • Observe, act and immediately report any issues that may pose a threat to a safe working environment
  • Ensure that the circumstances of any accidents or incidents are recorded in detail, reported via specified methods and that any supporting documentation is completed promptly, including any statutory returns.

  • Validation and review of Quality Team.
  • Support Technical Manager with:
  • BRC procedure/records update
  • Files – health and safety, daily internal quality check, Specification
  • Customer file updating
  • Label and new product
  • Supplier and contractor review
  • New product implementing; process review
  • Lean/sustainability/Project management
  • As packing commences ensure that the packers are packing to the correct weight and specification. Check each individual packer and check product at the end of the line.
  • Ensure daily job sheets are completed in full and all according checks are accurate.
  • Ensure sampling is taking place.
  • Ensure that daily and monthly hygiene checks are carried out sufficiently and that the cleaning operations have been adequately carried out.

  • Checking the structure, fabric and fixtures of the packhouse and building are maintained in a safe, clean and hygienic condition.
  • Assisting and guiding staff with information and feedback on quality, legal and hygiene requirements.
  • Inspect procedures of the entire production cycle to ensure they are efficient and comply with safety standards.
  • Monitor the use of production equipment to ensure it is safe and well-maintained and make recommendations to discard any equipment that doesn’t meet requirements
  • Oversee and monitor all production activities that affect quality in liaison with quality control personnel.
  • Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output (Inspect final output and compare properties to requirements)
  • Educate and train all production personnel on quality requirements, ensure they maintain a good knowledge of all products and provide regular update/refresher training to production personnel.

  • To ensure all quality controllers receive training and ongoing development.
  • To participate in the Company’s induction programme to ensure that all people within the operations department are trained in all aspects of quality.
  • To actively manage the daily performance of quality controllers with a view to development and continuous improvement.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Food Related Subject, not essential but desirable
  • 3-5 years’ experience as Quality Controller on Food/Fresh Produce
  • Good understanding of requirements of major multiples
  • Ability to work in a busy environment meeting time/budget deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have excellent leadership and management skills
  • Must have background in people management
