Role and purpose
- To undertake skilled tasks relating to maintenance of depot vehicle fleet and depot premises, safely and in accordance with statutory and business requirements, as assigned by supervisor.
- Work as part of the team in the Engineering Department at depot.
- Develop good relationships with colleagues and relevant personnel in other departments of the Group
Working relationships with
Engineering employees and engineering department management team
Local operations supervisors
Health and Safety Department team
Other Dublin Bus departments as required
Areas of responsibility 1. Safety
- Comply with Safety Statement and responsibilities set out in the “Safety in Engineering Handbook”
- Comply with safety responsibilities for vehicle maintenance as set out in a) vehicle manufacturer instructions and b) BAC instructions
Maintenance
Vehicle and plant fault diagnosis
Preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant and premises
All tasks associated with the mechanical systems, electrical systems and body systems of vehicles
Operate garage equipment
Grease vehicle lubrication points and change vehicle oils
Maintain vehicle batteries
Undertake all tasks provided for in the Productivity Agreements
Report any vehicle defects observed to supervisor
Maintain clean and efficient workshop
Undertake roadside repair and recovery of vehicles
General
Perform any other tasks appropriate to the grade as instructed by supervisor

Other requirements
Heavy duty vehicle experience
Served a recognised heavy vehicle mechanic apprenticeship
Have full clean driving licence (preferably category D, category B minimum)
Be over 21 years (to comply with D Licence regulation) – exception for current final year apprentices and mechanics who have recently completed BAC apprenticeship Have fluent spoken and written English
Qualification requirements:
- National Craft Certificate for the trade of Heavy/light Vehicle Mechanic awarded by SOLAS/Department of Education following the successful completion of a recognised SOLAS apprenticeship OR
- Advanced Certificate – Craft awarded by FETAC following the successful completion of a recognised SOLAS apprenticeship
Driving Licence requirements:
- A Valid Category B Irish Driving Licence held for a minimum of 2 years plus a Valid, Full Category D Licence Learner Permit
OR
- A Valid Category B Irish Driving Licence held for a minimum of 2 years plus a Valid Full Category D Irish Driving licence
