The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that the fleet is kept running efficiently, smoothly and safely. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Lead and participate in the specification and maintenance of vehicles for the business, ensuring successful delivery of all commercial, health and safety and operational results.
- Manage service and maintenance resources (external contractors and own mechanics) to ensure a high quality, comprehensive, and within budget vehicle supply, repair and maintenance service for the Greyhound fleet of RCVs, RELS, chain trucks, hook trucks, vans and associated waste collection vehicles.
- Support and drive the optimum vehicle availability across the business via continued monitoring, identifying improvements, and implementing same.
- Continuously review financial and operational performance, managing operational assets and/or employees to deliver a profitable business with great customer service standards. Ensure that the garage is fully equipped with all financially viable in-house fault diagnostics equipment to ensure prompt rectification of defects including hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical.
- Ensure the fleet management system is utilised effectively and monitored for accuracy of workshop input including job cards, purchase orders, and compliance data. Monitor and action any overdue events showing in the system. Ensure that there is a full closed loop showing issues raised on driver daily checks to same issues being closed out.
- Ensures that the garage is adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained. Ensure that third-party contractors working within the garage and/or working on fleet are appropriately inducted, trained, and carry the relevant insurances.
- Implement an appropriate system for management of spare parts stocks, ensuring adequate stocks are maintained with spare stock usage tightly monitored.
- Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times within the workshop.
- Ensure that all maintenance are risk assessed with appropriate safety measures and SOPs in in place, including the isolation and tag out of moving parts prior to maintenance activities.
- Actively managing business scorecard KPI’s, by setting budgets, reviewing and taking appropriate action to ensure optimum return on assets and service delivery to the Household and Commercial business units.
- Continuously monitor and undertake spot checks on vehicles across group vehicles to ensure that when out on the road, they are fit-for-purpose and meet all legal compliance requirements to satisfy RSA and other relevant authorities. Issues to be reported to the relevant Supervisor and/or Manager for remedy. Ensure that issues are dealt with promptly.
- Ensure health, safety, and compliance standards and procedures are embedded within the garage and all fleet maintenance activities. All vehicles used to be operating within date for all legislative requirements.

Experience, Skills & Education:
- Relevant Technical Qualification is essential.
- Management experience of a service organization fleet and/or garage.
- Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and Health & Safety legislation/environment.
- Knowledge of workshop procedures & CVRT, Loler, 13-week inspection testing regime and processes.
- Experience of managing in a labour intensive, multi-shift environment.
