Assistant Accountant

Impulse Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Assistant Accountant for a large client based in Ballymount

This is a full time 12 month FTC with a view to permanency

The Assistant Accountant role is a pivotal position within the group finance function. The Assistant

Accountant is responsible for all key functions of accounting for the entities that they are responsible for and is also a key part of the finance team as they support the preparation of accounts and provide the business with insightful analysis.

The role is supported by senior finance professionals which will provide guidance and support as the role progresses.

In their daily role the Assistant Accountant will interact with all business departments to resolve queries and support the departments with relevant information.

The Assistant Accountant must have the ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and ensure confidentiality of all information.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer, this role will resolve/fulfil a variety of challenges. We are looking for someone who can take ownership and see problems through to resolution.  

Job Details

  • Contract type: Initially commence on a 12-month fixed-term contract, upon completion of this period, the contract will be reviewed and, subject to satisfactory performance,  anticipate offering a permanent position.
  • Career level: Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting and Finance plus Chartered
  • Accountants Ireland – CAP1 or Qualified Accounts Technician with view to upskill
  • Salary: tbc
  • Hours per week: 8.45am-5.30pm Monday-Friday
  • Candidate Requirements:
  • Essential:
  • Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance or similar. Plus, Chartered Accountants
  • Ireland – CAP1 or Qualified Accounts Technician with view to upskill
  • Time management skills.

  • Comfortable processing invoicing and collecting payments, able to pay strict attention to detail.

Duties below include

  • Accounts Payable
  • Preparation and sending of invoices, purchase orders, and credit memos Processing a large
  • volume of purchase invoices.
  • Setting up new Suppliers.
  • Completion of payment runs.
  • Sending out remittances and dealing with all supplier queries in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring accounts payable and following up on outstanding balances when necessary.
  • Assisting Accountants with projects as required.
  • Assisting Accountants Lead with yearly audits and audit queries.
  • Participate in internal controls and policy compliance projects as required.
  • Proactively suggest ways to automate / streamline existing processes, reduce duplication,
  • eliminate unnecessary admin tasks, make better use of information systems.
  • Preparing monthly Commissions
  • Posting Staff Expenses
  • The creation of regular financial reports.
  • Managing petty cash transaction.
  • Reconciliation of bank statements.
  • Going to the bank to make cheque lodgements.
  • Cover Katie if on annual leave or sick leave!
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Manage and process accounts receivable and incoming payments, adhering to financial policies.
  • Handle daily financial transactions, such as verification, classification, computation, and recording of receivables data.
  • Prepare and process invoices and bank deposits in line with financial procedures.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable ledgers to ensure accurate posting of all payments.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies and billing issues with clients.
  • Encourage timely invoice payments by sending reminders and contacting clients directly.
  • Assist with Bank Audits
  • Assisting Accountants with projects as required.
  • Assisting Accountants Lead with yearly audits and audit queries.
  • Cover colleagues  if on annual leave or sick leave.
  • Financial Accounting (As Required & Commencement date TBA)
  • These tasks will be introduced on a phased basis and in any agreed timeline and will be by one company at a time.
  • Support in the preparation of nominal accounts to trial balance stage.
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register
  • Review balance sheet accounts to ensure that reconciliations are up to date and variances are investigated and resolved.
  • Prepare journal for review, with supporting back up.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Year End Financial Statements
  • Maintain accurate books and records for each entity.
  • Management Accounting (As Required & Commencement date TBA)
  • These tasks will be introduced on a phased basis and in any agreed timeline and will be by one company at a time.
  • Support the business by providing analysis on costs versus budget.
  • Support the finance team in the preparation of Management Accounts.
  • Investigate and report on findings on any variance analysis.
  • Work with business units to provide finance support the delivery of projects or business objectives.
  • Maintain departmental reporting around credit control and KPI’s.
  • HR Support.
  • Welcomes new accounts employees to the organisation by conducting orientation.
  • Answer/route phone calls, greet visitors, assist individuals with directions, and guide people through the building.
  • Ability to follow instructions from Chief Financial Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Chief Executive Officer.
