Reporting to: Director of Nursing (DON)
Position Overview:
The Person in Charge (PIC) will be responsible for the overall governance, operational management,
and clinical leadership. The PIC will ensure that all services are delivered
in line with HIQA standards and that the care provided is of the highest quality, person-centred, and
responsive to the needs of residents.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure full compliance with HIQA standards, regulatory requirements, and all statutory
obligations related to the operation of the nursing home.
• Oversee and manage the provision of care, ensuring that residents’ individual needs are
assessed and met through the development and implementation of comprehensive care plans.
• Lead the nursing home team in a manner that fosters a culture of respect, safety, and
continuous quality improvement.
• Provide leadership in recruitment, induction, training, and performance management of staff
to ensure a high-performing workforce.
• Manage budgets and resources efficiently, ensuring the optimal use of staffing and materials
to maintain high standards of care.
• Act as the primary point of contact for residents and their families, ensuring open
communication and addressing any concerns in a timely and effective manner.
• Lead on all internal and external inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews, ensuring that any
identified issues are addressed promptly.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Registered Nurse with a current NMBI registration.
• A minimum of three years’ experience in a senior management position within a healthcare
setting.
• A qualification in management (minimum QQI Level 6) is essential.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HIQA standards and their practical application in a long-term
care environment.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
